Within the Womb

Being on my second pregnancy, I am starting to notice the difference between my two kids so far. Caleb was continuously active within me with kicks that reminded of a soccer player. He has not disappointed my observation and has always been very busy and especially fascinated with balls.

This baby seems very sensitive to touch. If she is poked with an ultrasound probe, or stepped on by a climbing brother, she starts going crazy, and will do all she can to move away from the source of touch. Each ultrasound and heart check ends with a frustrated technician who says “she just won’t hold still for me to listen”.

There was a lady in the bible who noticed something unusual about how her twin babies were moving within her. Rebekah, the wife of Abraham, was finally able to have children after being barren.

“But the two children struggled with each other in her womb. So she went to ask the Lord about it. “Why is this happening to me?” she asked.”

Genesis 25:22

Rebekah was a perceptive mother already, even with her first pregnancy. She recognized that personality starts forming within the womb. She took her question to God, seeking wisdom from him as to how to parent before her kids arrived.

And the Lord told her, “The sons in your womb will become two nations. From the very beginning, the two nations will be rivals. One nation will be stronger than the other; and your older son will serve your younger son.”

Genesis 25:23

Wow, what a word about her boys! Thankfully Rebekah had some extra time to pray and think about how she was going to manage the conflict and quarrels that would result from those two. Rebekah with Jacob & Esau

The same is true for us as moms. Pregnancy can be a time of asking God to reveal special things about our baby to us, that we can then test in time. We don’t have the distraction of their outside person and the demands that they are putting on us. We can objectively ask God for a faith vision for that child, and pray for them believing that He will mold and shape them into the man or woman he has created them to be!

If you are like me and in this stage of having babies, I hope that you can take the time to seek God for your unborn baby. I’m excited to tell my kids the different things I felt about them when they lived within me.

Are you done having babies? It definitely isn’t too late to get a word from God regarding their lives. For further inspiration, check out Stormie Ormartian’s The Power of a Praying Parent for creative ways to pray for your child!

    1. Aw, that’s difficult. I pray that God gives you extra strength with this baby, a vision for their life, and an excitement for their birth! Pregnancy is so tough on our bodies, especially while caring for another child!
